Sometimes going for the cheapest option isn't always the best. Here is an article from a local news website detailing how a radio spontaneously started smoking. This is due to a poor, low quality li-ion battery pack.
The model in question is the Samcom CP-500. One of the problems is that this model is an OEM model, so is re-branned by other companies and is still being sold today! Here is a picture of the model.
If you have this model radio in school (it may be under another brand / model, which we have information of) we recommend you immediately stop using them, put the radios in a solid metal container, like a metal bin with lid and put them outside. Please call us on 01274 911340 for further advice. If you are unsure if your model is exactly the same, call us. We can confirm for you.
Again we find it tough to 'knock' other radio suppliers, but must do the responsible thing in warning our customers of a potential disaster. Safety is our number one priority.
